Professional Day Workshop for Kids!

Professional Day Musical Theatre Day-Camp with Joey Clarkson

 9-2:30, February 20

Portside Academy of Performing Arts,

 325 Cedar Street Port McNeill

Joey Clarkson is a musical theatre instructor from the Comox Valley. For the past 7 years she has been travelling Canada and abroad teaching and directing musical theatre workshops. Musical theatre is a powerful tool in developing self confidence, acceptance and teamwork. Joey began teaching theatre at the age of 13, formed her own volunteer organization at 15,  opened her own business at 17 and toured nationally at 19.   At 20, released her first album,  co wrote and produced her first musical and instructed and toured her own music internationally.  She has  raised over $100,000 through projects initiated for various charities, been a recipient of a variety of community service awards and is the informal North Island Youth Ambassador for Habitat for Humanity. Now at 25, she continues to teach musical theatre workshops locally, nationally and internationally as far away as the UK and the UAE.

Workshops are intense high energy rehearsals  learning lines, theatre sports, choreography, melodies, harmonies, stage presence and most importantly teamwork, while building valuable social skills and self esteem

A major goal of the workshop is to raise the level of self-confidence of the students with techniques to bring out their creativity and personality. Encouraging teamwork and self expression, the children learn musical numbers and script complete with simple choreography and present it to their parents at the end of the program.

The  5.5 hour Professional Day Workshop is $60 per child, ($50 if you register before February 20) with discounts for additional siblings after 2.

Update Regarding School Opening

August 28,2014

Dear Students, Parents and Community,

I want to take this opportunity to express my hopes that the current labour dispute between members of the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) and the government is resolved in a timely manner, allowing us to open schools according to our planned school calendar.  Please be reminded that according to the 2014/2015 school calendar, Tuesday September 2nd will be a School Based In-service day.   If the labour dispute is resolved on time Sea View will formally open for students on Wednesday September 3rd from 9:00-11:00 am.

If, however, we remain behind picket lines, school will not open as usual. We ask for your patience as we wait for the government and the BCTF to come to an agreement. When there is an agreement, we look forward to seeing your children again. Please check the school blog at svejss.edublogs.org and the district website at www.sd85.bc.ca for updates. If the job action continues into September, we will have more information about school opening shortly after any settlement.

I want to ensure everyone that Sea View will begin the school year with the same standards of high quality instruction and learning that we have all come to expect.  Sea View has established itself as a place of vibrant and energized learning and we all look forward to returning.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding Sea View School and the current labour dispute please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

D’Arcy Deacon

Principal
